Object Description
Dance garters from the 1980's made on plastic needlepoint canvas with aniline dyed acrylic yarn. The canvas is 6 squares to the inch, so the pattern comes out to just over two stitches to the centimeter across, and in the vertical the stitches extend the length of two squares, just shy of 1 stitch per cm. True vertical stitches compose the pattern of bands of black and green at the top and bottom. In the center, the design is of stepped diamond shapes (4 whole, and one half at each end), outlined in black, then layers of red, then white, moving inward to a core of a black diamond. The background is grey. The edges of the canvas are bound, and they are backed with black velveteen blind stitched onto the needlepoint yarn.
