Display Title Pipe stem
Descriptions
Object Description Thick, tapering, flat pipe stem, robust in appearance, braided with large, shiny porcupine quills. On one side of the stem, the braided quillwork forms orange triangular shapes, perhaps representing woodpecker beaks or buffalo tracks; on the other side, double-barred crosses may suggest dragonflies. Also decorated with red paint, wool, silk, unidentified hair, and another, now missing silk ribbon whose traces remain in the "X"-like soiling pattern. See conservation report for additional information.
