Descriptions
Object Description
Splint basket made by Phoebe Pocknett (Popmonet or Poponet)
Object Description
Mashpee artist Phoebe Pocknett (1888-1968) wove this wicker-plaited oak splint (or thin strip of wood) basket. The basket features a checkerboard or “in and out” weave with single wrap-reinforced flared rim. Baskets like this one were made for use in daily life. This particular basket shows little wear, suggesting that it may have been created by the artist for sale.
