Object Description
Straight-sided, round basket, much wider than high, plaited (1/1 interlacing) of wood splints, with sweet grass cordage (2-ply, Z-twist) used for portion of weft. Rim reinforced with wood splints on either side, attached by coiling. Lid made in same way, but includes un-twisted sweetgrass as weft, in addition to cordage and wood splints, and rim is reinforced with a bundle of sweet grass on the outside and a wood splint inside. Long handle on lid made from braided cordage. Wood splints in both basket and lid originally colored red, blue, purple, and natural, but outside of sides and top has faded to tan.
Dimensions: height including lid = 10.5 cm, height to rim = 10 cm, max. diameter including lid = 32 cm.
