Display Title Bent-wood cylinder box with carved human head on lid
Descriptions
Object Description Tall lidded, cylindrical container of bent wood (bark) stitched along a vertical seam with wood or cane splints. The lid is carved dense hardwood with stylized human head form, attached with 4 nails to a bent-wood cap that has small basketry handles attached to opposite sides. The flared base is carved fron the same hardwood, edges decoratively scalloped. Carved wood and bark have been treated with a darker oil or stain rubbed into the surface.
