Descriptions
Object Description
Tapa cloth in two pieces (A and B), each ~84cm by 108cm. They are light-weight, thin, transparent pieces of finely pounded inner bark fibers. Each single layer cloth appears to have been fabricated from one bark strip that is continuous for the length of the cloth. Edges are either cut or left natural. A beater pattern of alternating straight and wavy lines is visible in transparent light for both pieces. Both pieces have a yellow/brown tone, probably from rubbing or dipping in a dye material, such as tumeric. Holes and the remnants of ties along some edges of each piece were probably associated with use, possibly as clothing. There are no identification marks.
