Object Description
Bark cloth. Rrectangular, medium weight cloth of pounded off-white inner bark fibers.
The cloth is made up of approx. four layers of relatively evenly pounded layers, joined together by beating and pasting with the grain direction of each parallel to the length of the cloth. The pasting yields a relatively stiff hand in areas that are overlapped. The edges of the cloth are cut in a zig-zag pattern. One side of the cloth is decorated with a handpainted pattern composed of a network of squares and rectangles. These spaces are filled with solidly painted squares with distinctively concaved sides. No beater pattern is present.
