Object Description
Rio Grande blanket with banded layout. Brown, dark brown, gold, medium blue, blue-green, and cream z-spun wool weft and light brown z-spun s-twist 2-ply wool warp. Five bands of gold with narrow stripes of dark brown, medium blue, blue-green and four wide cream stripes bordered by dark brown stripes. Side selvages, weft woven over double warp three times, then wrapped around outer three warps. Top and bottom selvages warp ends are tied to create fringe. Length: 229.5 cm; Width: 135.5 cm; Fringe 4-6 cm at each end. Thread count: Warp -- 2 ends/cm; Weft -- 14 ends/cm. Brazil-wood dye used (this was brought back by mule to remote spanish towns in pre-analine days)
