Object Description
Textile of woven raffia cloth; 3 panels from a long ceremonial skirt, patterned by the technique of stick-resist in black dye (light and dark sections) on a beige ground. This is a technique unique to the Kuba region described by Emil Torday in 1910. This is an old cloth, showing signs of much use, few stains and a native mend in standard stitching. The long edges are hemmed in a newer, running stitch.
