Written on board: "Serpent Mound Park, Adams Co., Ohio. / Peabody Museum Amer. Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. / John Cone Kimball, Photographer, 1887. / 13 -- Portion of the Bottom of the Mound on the north side of the Serpent, showing its artificial character. / The stones were brought by the builders from the creek below, and are of a different kind from those belonging to the surface of the cliff."
