Object Description
Navajo chief's blanket with two sections of natural off-white and dark brown wool stripes; a center section and both edges have alternating dyed dark blue zigzags, dyed dark blue and natural dark brown stripes, dyed dark blue zigzags, dark blue and natural dark brown stripes, and dyed dark blue zigzags on a dyed red ground. Loss of blanket stitch edging on one side. Fading of red color; bleeding of red color onto the off-white wool. Small areas of insect damage, all smaller than 1 cm. Stitched-on label reads 3.4511; paper tag reads 41.473
Object Description
Transitional Navajo second phase woman's Chief's blanket, merino wool with a mixture of indigo and cochineal dyes. There is an addition of hanging supports made of animal hides with stitching done in spun thread. Overall brown and white striped design with colored blocks. There is no damage or repairs except one corner knot is partially missing. The blanket is tightly woven.
