Object Description
Tunic fragment; warp 2-ply firmly twisted. Original cat. description: Fragment of Tiahuanaco ([Huari/] poncho (1/4), 33 x 21". Design: bird men taken directly from the Gateway of the Sun. Figure is repeated alternately faced, in 3 bands following no sequence of colors. Tech.: interlocking tapestry; in the plain stripes are seen "lazy lines". A curious joining, possibly loom joining in one portion. The close whipping together of side seams remains on one side. The design one of finest of Tiah. highland des. on coastal textile. Warp: 2-ply firmly twisted cotton. Weft: 2 ply wool, probably vicuna
