Object Description
Child's mocassin, one of pair, bearing the inscription "O. Sioux 190(3?)." Hard sole made of rawhide and soft deerskin uppers. The pattern for the uppers is a "T" with a separate tongue attached to the top of the "T". There is a low ankle flap. The sewing was done with sinew, even where attached to commercial cloth on the inside of the heel. The edge of the tongue and the ankle flap are cut in a zigzag pattern. The beadwork design on the toe is in the form of a maltese cross. Beadwork is in lazystitch with ten/eleven beads per stitch in teh cross. Eight beads per stitch occur in the border. The cross is executed in light blue and rose colored seed beads against a background of white sees beads. The border is a mix of mostly white, with some cut black, yellow, green, dark blue, clear, and rose seed beads.
