Object Description
Purse from early 1910 or before, constructed of two pieces of short pile black velveteen with a cardboard interlining for stiffening, and a lining of scarlet glazed cotton. The bottom edge is rounded and the top narrows to 11.5 cm. The opening is covered by a flap, folded over 6.5 cm, with a pointed tip, an extension of the back piece. A metal hook and loop fastener is sewn on the flap and the front of the bag. There is no cloth binding, but all edges are covered by clear seed beads in a diagonal "rolled stitch." Bordering the bottom of the front are round "flowers" (.75 cm in diameter) in highly raised beadwork sewn over paper patterns.
