Object Description
Beaded fold-over sewing case dating to early 1903 or earlier, composed of a flexible but reinforced cover, beaded on the outside, with a pin cushion and pocket sewn into the inside. Inside, the rectangular fabric needle cushion, firmly stuffed, is sewn across the width of approximately 1/3 of a one-piece cover which folds over top and bottom to close with a hook and eye. The cushion is of purple glazed cotton. The cover is lined with the same purple cotton and it is given shape and stiffness by a cardboard interlining visible through the covering of hot pink fine wool. The seams and edges are covered by large clear seed beads in the “rolled stitch” diagonally placed. There is no cloth binding underneath.
