Velveteen purse with floral beaded design

Object Description
Beaded bag with floral designs from early 1900s, with rounded bottom and narrowed mouth. Bag is constructed of two pieces of short pile black velveteen stitched together with a top opening. Side and bottom edges are bound in red cotton fabric. A decorated flap with straight sides and pointed bottom is sewn to the upper edge extending across the width and falling halfway down the front. The back and front are identical in construction and decoration, making a completely reversible purse. The flaps mimic the "fold-over" closure of this type of bag but here it is left open at the top. Inside, the lining is brown plain weave glazed cotton and this material folds over at the mouth of the bag enclosing all layers in a .5 cm binding.
