Beaded purse in floral motif with braided bead handle

Object Description
Flat purse from early 1900s. Has rounded bottom and narrowed mouth, constructed of two pieces of cotton fabric fully covered by beadwork. The back section is extended to form a small fold-over flap. The cotton on which the beadwork is stitched is tan with a simple dark brown linear design and this serves as the inside surface of the pouch. Rose colored silk binds the opening and the edge of the flap, but this is now faded and worn. A strong floral design in spray arrangement fully covers both faces. A background of solid white supports leaves of several shades of green and flowers of many colors. These are worked in careful contour stitching. Back and front are related in design but different, and a leaf motif extends onto the foldover flap. The handle consists of two strand[see Object Description text entry for extended description]
