Display Title Beaded purse with leaf motif
Descriptions
Object Description Beaded, leaf motif, small flat purse from early 1900s with a rounded bottom and a narrowed mouth covered by a fold-over flap with pointed edge which is an extension of the back fabric. The material of the front piece is red plain weave wool; the back and flap are of black twill. There is a heavy paper interlining stiffening the body and flap, and all parts are lined with a pale pink plain weave glazed cotton. An off-white cotton binding is folded over the stitched seams and is exposed about .75 cm on the outside edges. A metal hook and loop fastener is sewn to the front and to the flap. Back and front are decorated in foliate patterns, densely beaded in related arrangements: two leaves on the bottom front, two on the flap, and six on the back.
