Written on board: "Mexico: State of Jalisco / 40-88 / N30392 H8113"; Typed caption on mount: "Dancers during the Peyote fiesta at Pochotita, led by the 'devil- / man,' dance for hours in a blistering sun. By taking drinks of / payote at regular intervals they seemed to be immune both to the / heat and to fatigue. The leader wears plumes of rooster feathers / and is festooned with strings of bamboo rattles."
