Weft-twined bag in yellows, greens, and red
Descriptions
Object Description
Large weft-twined rectangular bag from the Great Lakes region, dating to the turn of the twentieth century. Yarn is commercial z-spun s-twisted wool, aniline dyed, in muted mulicolors including maize yellow, forest green, red, purple, bright green, black, grey, and brown. The bottom of the bag is sewn shut, indicating it is of the later style, of a newer technique. The designs indicate later styles, too, wrapping around the bag instead of being different on each side. The largest design elements are two wide bands at the top and bottom, of green cross-hatching and honeycomb patterns on a maize yellow field, and a wide center band of a double red zig-zag on a brown field. Between these bands are narrower ones of solid color, geometric shapes, and zig-zags, divided by lines [see Object Description text entry for extended description]
