Object Description
Mask; carved in form of a face, in full relief with low relief detail around eyes and eye brows. Open, purchased mouth has no teeth. Painted intense blue with bilateral fin or feather motifs. Perforations along forehead and temples. May have held hair attachments. Singing spirit with tentacles. Depicts a spirit singing as indicated by pursed lips. Painted in blue, black and red. Seven red devilfish tentacles project out from the mouth. Mouth is almost beak like with its pointed, pursed lips. This might indicate that the mask also represents a bird spirit.
