Object Description
Navajo concha belt from 1930s-1950s, consisting of six silver conchas and seven silver butterfly spacers with a matching buckle, on a base belt of soft brown leather. The buckle is identical to the conchas, but with the center cut out in a square opening. Each concha is a scalloped oval with a stamped pattern and raised reposse of feather motif and diamond-shaped center. Surrounding the reposse work and inside the scalloped edge are a total of twelve cut pieces of turquoise that are stepped triangles, set in bezel settings. Butterfly spacers consist of stamped heart pattern with four similar stepped turquoise units in the center, set in bezel as well. Buckle is 7.5 cm high, 9.7 cm wide, 1 cm deep. Conchas are 7.5 cm high, 8.8 cm wide, 1 cm deep. Spacers are 6 cm high, 3 cm wide, 1 cm deep. Overall belt length is 131 cm.
