Descriptions
Object Description
Satchel, also described as woven wallet. The overall form and an absence of carrying straps suggests it intended to contain sacred items. The specific woven design is related to prayer issues. In particular, the “lightning family” border pattern at one edge indicates that this object held a sacred or ritual item or kit. In addition, it may have been woven in sections; the three linear areas in the overall design suggest that the bag was made for three items. The design is similar to that on older buffalo bags that were used to hold sacred items.
