Descriptions
Object Description
Satchel, also described as woven wallet, with yarn braid. The overall form and an absence of carrying straps suggests it intended to contain sacred items. The specific woven design is related to prayer issues. The presence of a small strap suggests that this item was hung. It is inappropriate to place some items on the floor. The object is not much worn, possibly indicating sacred use. There is a “checkerboard family” border pattern at one edge. These objects were not made for the tourist market. They were often given away during marriages and barters.
