Object Description
Fragmentary cotton mantle - woven in bands; warp faced plain weave; 2 red & 1 cream alternated with 4 pattern vands bird & geometric design checkerboard fashion; plain weave in blue with design carried by white warp floeated on reverse side when not needed in pattern.: Mantle; 4 strips of supplementary warp-patterned cloth alternate w/3 stripes of 1-1 plainweave; seamed together lengthwise. Warp-faced, warp-patterned strips 1-1 plainweave using 1 set of white, 1 indigo dyed cotton warps (z-2s) in checkerboard design of blue squares w/white geometric motif, white squares w/blue birds. In white areas, 2 white warps alternate w/2 blue warps. In blue areas white yarns float on back. Plainweave strips have warp predominating (z-2s, 12 warp, 8 weft/cm). One
