Object Description
Cotton & wool brocade fragment - double ended snake pattern; purple wool & white cotton: Band; double-faced fabric with two sets of warps and a single set of wefts. Snake/feline figure repeated alternately in light on dark, dark on light, appearing in exact reverse on opposite face. One set of warps, thick purple camelid yarns (2s-plied), unwoven but float on surface, held down when necessary by a weft. Second set of warps natural cotton (2s-plied), woven by an indentical weft. One weft selvage has three heavy blue camelid warps; other unreinforced, as is warp selvage. One warp, two weft selvages.
