Object Description
Lau'a, tapa in process of manufacture. A light weight, almost translucent, finely pounded cloth formed from a single layer of off-white colored inner-bark fibers. The grain direction of the fibers are parallel to the longest dimension of the cloth. The two long sides of the cloth retain its original pounded edge finish; the edges of the two shorter sides are cut. There are manufacture related bisecting horizontal and vertical fold lines are present throughout. Many branch related holes occur overall. Identifying number: Peabody Museum catalogue number in black appears along one edge of the cloth.
