Object Description
Lau'a, tapa in process of manufacture. The cloth is a light weight, almost translucent, finely pounded cloth formed from a single layer of off-white inner bark fibers. The direction of the grains are parallel to the length of the cloth. The two shorter ends of the cloth appear to have been cut, while the longest edges have thier original pound edge finish. Manufacture related fold creases are present. Many branch hols also occur throughout. Identifying number: A Peabody Museum catalogue number in black has been applied along one corner edge.
