Indigenous Term Kapa Moe
Object Description Five layer kapa moe (sleeping cloth); individual cloths joined by stitching with a fine plied uncolored commercially spun sewing thread in long uneven running stitches; cloths folded at joined edge in the traditional manner (see Kooijman, Tapa in Polynesia, pp. 168-9)--kilohana layer and two uncolored cloths folded together at the front, two remaining uncolored cloths folded together behind; all five cloths rather thick with a somewhat crisp hand; cloths roughly pounded although bark fibers well macerated and enmeshed; all cloths "watermarked" throughout with indistinctly patterned beater impressions; manufacture related foldlines present in all; all cloth edges retain a natural pounded edge finish, or are cut straight, apparently a feature of original manufacture; only the [see Object Description text entry for extended description]
