Object Description
Tapa cloth, white, perhaps a Hawaiian kapa sheet from a kapa moe. The off-white cloth is a fine to medium weight cloth, one layer, with a ribbed linear beater pattern running widthwise (fibers run lengthwise). Beater patterning or 'watermarking' is similar to the one featured in Brigham Vol III, Plate BB no. 10. The top and bottom edges and one side edge are natural, raw finished and the remaining side edge has been cut. Catalogue number is written in red paint 3 inches from bottom edge.
