Object Description
Small, square cane mat, interlaced in twill design, with 8-pointed star motif in center surrounded by parallel diagonal lines formed by 3/3 straight twill interlacing. Design is generally black on natural and red, with colors probably added by vegetable dyes. Elements in one direction are natural with three red stripes (5 natural, 5 red, 9 natural on each side, and 7 red in center), and in the other direction are black except for 6 elements in natural at border. Edge held in place by encircling element probably of bark.
