Object Description
Written on board: "The Mastadon and Human Skull. / Peat meadow on the farm of Mr. William U. Maynard, Northboro Mass. where the bones of a Mastadon and a Human Skull were found. The ditch runs nearly North and South; is 71 feet in length, 6 feet wide and from 5 to 10 feet in depth with two cross cuts 20 feet long on the East and West sides, parallel with the ditch and 7 feet wide. The Mastadon bones were found about where the man in the main ditch stands, and the human skull in the side ditch on the West side of the picture. The view is taken looking about South by East. The remains are in the Museum of the Natural History Society, Worcester Mass. October 1885."
