Descriptions
Object Description
Written on board: Mexico. Yaxchilan. T. Maler 1897. Yaxchilan. Stela II. front. (verso) The Second Southern Temple. Perhaps the Ahau with the Halach-vinic, each with quiver as still in use among the Lacantun Indians. It seems that at Yaxchilan it has been the general fashion to dedicate one side of the stela (monument, grave-pillar) to a human remembrance, and the other to the gods, almost exclusively to Ketsalcoatl or the high priest Ahaucan of that cultus. T.M. We have 9 Ahau 18 Xul (21) among the glyphs.
