Object Description
Chinle rug, made by Elsie Bowman. Three gold bands with three full and two half brown diamonds joined and outlined with series of half diamonds creating a serrated border; these diamonds enclose tan crosses accented with horizontal lines in "comb" pattern bordered by narrow yellow and white lines and gold band. The diamond bands are separated by tan bands, the two nearer the center with an undulating dark gray band, the two at top and bottom with a pink-tan line at edge. Warp: white wool; wefts: brown, tan, gold, dark gray and white natural and vegetal colored wool. Selvages: 2-ply light gray cords added in all four edges, tassels at corners braided for 1 cm, then tied, with 5 cm loose.
Warp direction 132 x weft direction 88 x depth .4 cm, plus 6 cm tassels each corner, braided 1 cm, tied, and loose 5 cm.
