Object Description
Optical illusion design rug. Series of small stepped diamonds, of half light brown and half gray in center vertical line and half light brown and half gray-brown elsewhere, and diagonal lines of white lozenges in one direction and black lozenges the other, that form total pattern of cubes on edge; a light brown band across rug above and below cubes. Border: black band on all four edges. Warp: white natural handspun wool; wefts: white, browns, black, gray natural handspun wools. Selvages: 2-ply white cords added in at sides, 2-ply gold cords added in top and bottom.
Warp direction 107.5 x weft direction 81.5 x depth x .3 cm, plus 5.5 cm tassels, braided and tied on three corners, loose on fourth corner.
