Object Description
Saddle blanket or rug, self-patterned plain weave and tapestry weave. Black and white regular twill, narrow bands of columns of black and columns of white stitches, bands offset to form pattern. Border at top and bottom: narrow band of black, then outer band of alternating white lozenges and lozenges consisting of gray and maroon bars vertically stacked, and final outer white band. Warp: white handspun wool; wefts: white, black, gray, and maroon handspun aniline dyed wools. Selvages: white 2-ply cords added in all four edges; corners augmented with lavender 2 ply wool and black 3-ply commercial wool, forming full pompoms.
Warp direction 142 x weft direction 86 x depth .5 cm, plus 6-8 cm tassels -pompoms each corner.
Small paper tag, written in ink: "C' R33" written in pencil: "Double saddle (fancy) 34 x 53"
