Object Description
Large tapa cloth curtain. Cloth primarily decorated in a matte red-brown paint in the Tongan method over a leaf design tablet (kupesi) with wide top and bottom bands decorated in the typical Fijian stencil method. Cloths produced in Kambara in the southern Lau group in this fashion are known as gatu vakaviti. Full width as manufactured is 152 inches (not 126 inches) x 16 ft 17 inches.
