Fringed rain sash in white cotton plain-weave

Object Description
White cotton sash with fringe, from 1950s-1970s. Body of sash is a warp-faced plain weave 167 cm long, 12 cm wide, and .2 cm deep. Warp and weft are natural-colored commercial cotton cord, 4-ply z-spun elements s-twisted together. Warp has 12 threads to the cm, weft 2.5 to the cm. The selvages recieve no finishing treatment, but are very even. At the ends of the woven portion, the warp is split into 3 clusters. These are subdivided into 4 elements or varing numbers of basic cord strands, which are braided. The resulting braid is approx. 2 cm wide and 4 cm long, and the braiding terminates inside 3 rings, made of the same cord wrapped over a cornhusk braided ring. The rings are each 3.5 cm in diameter and 1.5 cm high. The warp cords continue through the 3 rings, int[see Object Description text entry for extended description]
