Object Description
Finger-woven rain sash of white s-spun 2-ply cotton dating no later than 1877. Sash consists of two long sections, each with fringe on one end, stitched together at the unfringed end. the fringed ends have been divided into many small finger-woven sections which are then passed through cotton-wrapped corn husk rings, knotted, then twisted to form long fringe. Length: 248 cm; Width: 17 cm; Depth: .3 cm. Excellent structural condition, though cotton has yellowed with age and there is some slight staining.
Paper tag reads: "Mexican [crossed out] Moki ? Sash from Dr. Dixwell of Boston recv July 30, 1877" (on front). "11.630 1b" (on back).
