Object Description
Rug. Imitation of a Navajo Classic period serape. White, brown, blue and red z-spun aniline-dyed wool. Woven in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico in the 1980s. In the center is a broad dark brown band. A total of four bands, one at each end and one on either end of the brown center panel, consist of three concentric squares of red, dark brown and red separated from each other by blue and brown bands. A total of three white and two brown bands separating the end panel from the center panel. Twisted warp produces a fringe at both ends, and side selvagtes arre as woven over thicker cords on edge. Length: 149 cm, Width: 81.5 cm, Depth: .3cm. 15 cm fringe on ends. Thread count: 2.5/cm warp, 11ends/cm weft. Excellent condition.
