Object Description
Rio Grande banded blanket from northern New Mexico. Made from brown, white, red and orange z-spun wool (weft) and white s-spun cotton (warp) using a tapestry weave.Twenty-five red horizontal bands with some containing orange and/or white separated from each other by a brown line. There are also a total of four white plain bands separated from the red bands by a brown line. The very center of the rug has a red and white "Railroad track". Warp ends are gathered in groups of 4-5 threads and knotted to creat fringe on top and bottom. Side selvages were left as woven. Length: 202 cm, Width: 131.3 cm, Depth, .5 cm. Thread count: warp: 3 ends/cm, weft: 9 ends/cm. In good condition. Some warp threads appear to be broken and the colors are very faded.
