Object Description
Salimopia Shikan'ona (warrior from the nadir) kachina of painted cottonwood root with large black fabric ruff at neck and small green ones at ankles and right wrist. Black case mask with red and blue tubular mouth, white eyes outlined in green which are joined together, flower designs in orange, green, and brown for ears against white background, and a horizontal red tube with blue end affixed to head (oriented front to back). Black torso with yellow shoulders and forearms, turquoise belt, and white kilt with green and black rim designs. Leather sash across torso. Legs are yellow and moccasins are red. Holds a green yucca whip in each hand. Mounted on base. Kachina is part of set of 10 depicting participants in a Shalako ceremony (995-29-10/73499-73508).
