Object Description
Saiytasha kachina (Rain Priest of the North) of painted cottonwood root with rabbit fur bandolier, fringed leather leggings, leather sash and shawl, and necklace of turquoise chips. White case mask has rectangular black eyes and mouth, black and white ruff, slot ear on left side of head, a red and a white feather on top, and a turquoise and black horn on the right side. Sash and shawl are white with designs in green, black, red, and yellow. Moccasins are turquoise, white, orange, and yellow. Kachina holds bow in left hand and rattle (?) in right. Mounted on base. Kachina is part of set of 10 depicting participants in a Shalako ceremony (995-29-10/73499-73508). Presumed to be carved by Steven Cumosoa. (See notes/histories- attribution, bibliography).
