Object Description
Hututu kachina (Rain Priest of the South) of cottonwood root with fur bandolier, leather fringed leggings, leather sash and tunic, and necklace of turquoise chips. White case mask has rectangular mouth, a black line where eyes would be which continues onto slot ears on both sides of head, black and white ruff, and a red and a white feather on top. Tunic is undecorated, but sash has designs in green, black, and red. Kilt has designs painted in orange, black, green, and blue. Moccasins are turquoise, white, red, and yellow. Kachina holds bow in left hand and rattle (?) in right. Mounted on base. Kachina is part of set of 10 depicting participants in a Shalako ceremony (995-29-10/73499-73508). Presumed to be carved by Steven Cumosoa. (See notes/histories- attribution, bibliography).
