Display Title Warp-float belt: diamond-centered motif alternating with stepped X-forms
Descriptions
Object Description Warp-float belt from the mid-1900's, in red, green, and black. This belt is in what Kate Peck Kent calls the Hopi style, using black weft cords of single-ply s-spun wool, and warps in red, black, and green 3-ply commercial aniline dyed wool yarn, re-spun to very tight. Most of belt is warp-faced plain weave, in stripes (from outer moving inward) black, green, red. In the center runs a stripe of warp-floated pattern in red and black, a repeating design of triangle-forms and stepped-edge X-shaped forms, and rows of stripes at the ends. There are 180 warp elements, just under 19 per cm of width. A fringe hangs from the ends of the woven belt, warp elements gathered into groups of ten and z-twisted into a 22 cm fringe of 18 elements, each knotted at the bottom.
