Object Description
Early Chinle rug. Three wide bands with series of six stepped outline diamonds formed of connected squares heavily outlined in brown-black, the center band orange with white squares and the two light brown bands at top and bottom with orange squares. These bands are separated by two panels consisting of alternating narrow and wide stripes in black-brown, white, blue-gray, red and orange. Narrower bands of alternating stripes at top and bottom with brown-black bands and orange selvages cords at edges. Obvious lazy lines. Warp: white natural handspun wool; wefts: white natural handspun wool, black natural handspun wool, augmented, orange, red, blue-gray, blue green natural handspun wool, aniline dyed. Selvages: weft wrapped around outer warp at sides, 2-ply orange cords [see Object Description text entry for extended description]
