Object Description
Panel; elaborate des. w/ two bands of stepped frets separated by bands of contiguous triangles and band of weft-faced plainweave. Across bottom, 5 large birds holding small birds in mouths. Warp: cotton, (s-2z), 9 epcm. Weft: camelid, several shades of yellow and pink, (z), (z-2s), 40-70 epcm.; white, brown, blue cotton, (z-2s). Yellow camelid weft fringe in dovetailed and slit tapestry (many long ones stitched). May have been woven in 3 strips. One warp selv. is tubular, other cut and sewn back into cloth. A very open 1-1 plainweave is stitched on back (warp and weft: tan cotton, S, 5 epcm.
