Object Description
Handspun plain weave white cotton kilt with embroidered black, red and green s-spun wool at side edges, and with black z-spun wool on bottom selvage, 1903 or earlier. Embroidered pattern on each side edge as follows (bootm to top): * Wide black horizontal band with two smaller sectioins, seven red vertical lines separated by white (rain) underneath black inverted stepped triangle outlines in white on a red field (clouds); two solid green horizontal bands separated by a black band. Pattern repeats once from *. Embroidery inner edge has two narrow white vertical lines and serrated edge in hooked pattern. Top and right selvage are rolled and stitched. Left side selvage is wrapped with black wool. Bottom selvage is wrapped in white cotton with black z-spun wool plaited band sti[see Object Description text entry for extended description]
