Object Description
Red cloth Indian legging. Conservation assessment: the legging is made from a cut section red woolen cloth (balanced plain-weave; warps and wefts 9 epc; S spun singles. Blue trim is a 2/2 twill woven tape (Z spun single warps and wefts, with larger diameter warps); trim is folded over the red cloth edges, face and rear and stitched with a fine thread of 2 ply S vegetable fiber (stem/bast), genus/species unidentified . Paired dark blue bands (1.0 to 1.7 cm wide) near upper and lower areas of the legging, appliqued or stitched through to the rear side of the red cloth, are cut sections/strips from a fulled plain woven fine woolen cloth. Warps 20-22 epc. Blue cut bands are stitched with a 2 ply S fine silk thread.
