Object Description
Woman's dress, one of two panels, in weft-faced tapestry weave using red, indigo and black wool. Black and indigo are z-spun single ply. Red is possibly unraveled bayeta. Wide center panel of black. Borders of red and blue in the following pattern: three wide red bands alternating with four narrow indigo bands, followed by two narrow red bands separated by a narrow black band. All selvages have been wrapped with indigo wool. Indigo tassels at three corners. Length: 131.5 cm; Width: 87.2 cm; Depth: .3 cm; Tassels: 7 cm. Thread count: Warp -- 6 ends/cm; Weft -- 22 ends/cm. Good condition. A number of small holes and missing weft threads in one border end, and also a hole in black panel. Some staining.
